If you follow me via Twitter or Instagram you will know that I have recently finished my PGCE and this called for a celebration. I’ve always wanted to go to a Spa and this seemed like the perfect treat after a stressful year. Heads up this is quite a lengthy post!
There are quite a few spas in the North West but for us (the boy and I) it was about finding a reasonably good deal so we opted for The Woodland Spa who offer four deals, we opted for the Sunset Spa which was £74 (normally priced at £159.50) for both of us and included an unlimited Thermal Experience followed by a 2 course meal plus a bottle of Prosecco which was no good to us as we don’t drink alcohol so instead we for soft drinks instead. We also booked the Rasul within our thermal journey for an extra £20 each.
The spa is located in Burnley (Lancashire) amongst acres of countryside which is made up of woodland and scenic views of Pendle Hill; it definitely was a stunning location. We were greeted by a lovely receptionist who went through some formal paperwork and explained how the thermal journey worked. We were then given our locker keys to get changed and start enjoying our day. The locker included a bath robe, a towel and some flip flops, if at any point you need another towel they were available from reception. The changing rooms are gorgeous and really spacious, the showers all had Neal Wolf shampoo and conditioner and each dressing table had hairdryers and plug sockets for your own electrical items.
Onto the journey..we started off by using the Roman Foot Baths which offered a reflexology massage to the feet with intense bubbles stimulating pressure points. We then went onto the Hydrotherapy Pool which has powerful massage jets in certain areas to eliminate muscular tension and improves circulation before experience the outdoor Infinity Pool and Hot Tubs which were amazing I think we spent most of our time outdoors. Even though the weather was cold and it was slightly drizzling the outdoor facilities remained open and once you’re in the hot tub you can’t feel the cold. There was also a Serenity Pool which is located in a warm low-lit relaxation room with a high temperature pool and an artificial fire running across the wall.
There were also a variety of saunas and steam rooms which we hopped in and out of; there are also Experience Showers around the hydro pool which is amazing. In between our Thermal Journey we went and had our Rasul treatment which is a private mud chamber, we were given a dish of three types of organic mineral muds which are applied to different parts of the body before relaxing in a traditional steam room. This allows the muds to deep cleanse, exfoliate and nourish the skin for approximately 17 minutes before a gentle shower comes on and washes it all away. I would definitely recommend this treatment.
We then carried on our thermal journey until 8pm, our 2 course meal was booked for 9pm so this gave us plenty of time to get dressed. The Bertram’s Restaurant is located above the spa, we were given a window seat which overlooked the Lancashire countryside and was a breathtaking view. The food was also exceptional; the boy ordered Bertram’s Fish and Chips which came with ’Proper’ Mushy Peas, Hand Cut Chips and Homemade Tartar Sauce and I had a Grilled Sea Bass Fillet with a Smoked Haddock & Salt Cod Fishcake, Green vegetables, Lemon and Chive Butter Sauce. For desert we ordered Mulled Fruit Crème Brulée with a White Chocolate and Clementine cookie and a Chocolate Brownie with Vanilla Ice Cream, Raspberry Sauce. My only qualm was we were offered a full bottle of Prosecco and because we don’t drink and asked for soft drinks we were only given a drink each which was nowhere near equivalent to a bottle.
This meal definitely finished the day off with a bang, we had a fabulous and relaxing time and even today I feel so relaxed I think I may just stay in my PJs and do nothing. I’d like to add that I wasn’t able to take any photos whilst at the Spa for the obvious reason that we were in and out of pools so it wasn’t practical, the photos I have used have wither been taken from the website or through stock photos.
I would recommend definitely recommend The Woodland Spa their deals are great and so affordable, next time we go we’d consider stay the night in their luxury accommodations to complete the whole experience. I now understand why people go on about how fabulous their Spa trips are, its pure bliss!
