Can we just take a moment to celebrate the release of a much anticipated product, the Real Techniques Deep Cleansing Gel. It’s no surprise or secret just how amazing the Real Techniques brushes are, I pretty much own the entire collection apart from the (oh so beautiful) Bold Metal ones but they are and have been on my wish list forever!I often read tweets/reviews of people moaning about having to clean their brushes this girl here never complains in fact I look forward to Sunday evening which is the designated day for my brushes to take a bath. I’ve previously done a step by step post on how I deep clean my brushes and although the products I’ve been using have been great I was intrigued as to how the Real Techniques Cleansing Gel (£7.50) would compare and whether it would help to speed up the process.
The formula has a thin gel consistency which has been specially formulated to breakdown product build up. The click top opening allows just enough product to be squeezed out to prevent wastage. I should point out that I still used the brush egg with this product to make sure I was getting in-between all the bristles as I prefer this tool rather than having to swirl my brushes on my palms.
The formula is gentle and didn’t cause any of my brushes to shed instead it left them super clean and once they dried they maintained their fluffiness. I should point out that my foundation brushes needed a lot more product than my eye brushes but I suppose that’s a given especially if you use liquid foundation. If you want to maintain the longevity of your brushes it’s important to give them a regular clean, once a week is sufficient. Deep cleaning your brushes also gets rid of bacteria that lingers amongst the bristles. Overtime if you keep using the same brush to apply your makeup you’ll often find it starts to streak and that’s basically down to product build up so to maintain a flawless look brush cleaning is essential.
My only qualm with this product is the bottle isn’t big enough, I think I need a gallon of this stuff. I washed about 12 makeup brushes which probably used up a third of the bottle, this can become quite pricey considering my usual brush cleaning ingredients are super cheap (£1) and equally effective. However, I have to confess that the Real Techniques Deep Cleansing Gel definitely speeds up the cleaning process and that’s because I’m only using one product for cleaning rather than using a two-step process.
Overall I was really happy with this product my expectations were certainly met but then again I wouldn’t expect anything less from the Pixiwoo sisters. Another product I’m really hoping they take out (soon) is a brush roll or a brush belt I still haven’t found one perfect enough to house all my Real Techniques brushes.
