Make Up For Ever Mat Velvet+ Foundation | Review

I have stayed true to my holy grail foundation for the last three years but lately I feel like I’ve built a love/hate relationship with it. I think that was a sign that I needed to try something different. Just over a year ago a Make Up For Ever counter opened in my local Debenhams store and I’ve walked past it numerous times without even stopping to look at its products. But having heard such great things about the brand I decided to stop and venture. I clearly didn’t leave empty handed!

In today’s post I’ll be sharing my thoughts on the Mat Velvet+ Liquid Foundation (53 Golden Camel) (£30.00), I’ll review the Ultra HD Concealer (£21.00) in a separate post, so keep your eyes peeled for that. The packaging is super slick with the small squeeze tube housing 30ml of product. It’s perfect for travelling with too as it has a nozzle rather than a pump which I actually prefer. The foundation comes in an array of shades (17 to be precise) which is always a massive plus.

The foundation is oil free, water resistant and matifying which is exactly what I need from my incredibly oily skin. The consistency is quite thick which initially made it quite hard to blend  but that’s because I was using a foundation brush. I’ve now switched up to a beauty blender and this is by far so much better in providing a smooth and flawless finish. What I love about this foundation is that it lasts all day (8 hours+) and is incredibly light weight. It’s also amazing at covering up redness, areas of discolouration, pigmentation and my awful dark eye bags (sleep deprived mummy).

With this foundation I don’t actually need to use a concealer for daily wear as it gives me the coverage I need, it’s a highly pigmented foundation for sure. Despite the coverage being so high it doesn’t make me looked cakey at all and I don’t get that heavy feeling of foundation on my face. I should also point out that the colour match is great and matches my chest area, I hate it when foundation makes your face look a completely different shade! I also haven’t been using a setting powder with this foundation as I wanted to test it for it’s true claims of ‘lasts for hours long’ and I can honestly say Make Up For Ever is absolutely spot on. I haven’t been getting into a shiny mess at all. It’s fair to say that this foundation is definitely going to be one that I continue to use, so it’s out with old and in with the new!

I need to go and test this out. I have an oily t zone but in the summer I find my face doesn’t look glowly it looks full of grease and not nice. I like a matt foundation that doesn’t look caked also getting the correct yellow tone is so important for my skin tone- I don’t like the yellow bronzed look or the pink grey one. I am not local to anyone but Mac has been ok for me and at the moment a PUR one is working fine but still need some matt. Thanks for the recommendation
