This has probably been the most talked about product by bloggers/YouTuber’s. So as you can imagine with it being such a hyped up product I got sucked in and pre-ordered the product before it was available to purchase in stores.
I wear a liquid liner on a daily basis it’s just part of my everyday make up routine, but I rarely wear a wing unless I’m going out and that’s probably because I’m rubbish at them! As you may well known a lot of bloggers and YouTuber’s were sent this product well before the launch so I read/watched umpteen amounts of reviews and they were ALL positive. This made me want the product even more, the application looked effortless and the wings were perfect. What more could you ask for in a liner?
I should mention that I love Benefit as a brand and do own a good handful of their products, so to add another ‘They’re Real’ product to my collection was quite exciting. Benefit claim that there is no product like this on the market, but I have read a few reviews about a dupe which would also be interesting to test out.
Onto the product…Benefit They’re Real Push Up Liner is the first ever lash hugging gel eye liner in pen form. It is made with a custom AccuFlex tip which I hear has been in the making for 5 years, this inventive and innovative tip has been shaped in such a way to provide steady and lash hugging application.
The pen comes with a little orange tip protector which I would recommend replacing after each use to prevent the product drying up. Once I removed the tip for the first time I had to give the pen 63 clicks (no exaggeration) before any product was released. Before applying it to my eyelids I did swatch it on the back of my hand and I have to say the colour pay off is brilliant it is super rich black which I love. Also when I tried to rub it off with my fingers it doesn’t budge which is perfect for someone with excessively oily eyelids.
I have to be honest and say the first application was more of a practice and it didn’t go so well, I found that I couldn’t apply the product with my eyes open and had to hold my eyelids tort which did require a bit of pulling and tugging. The product dries really quickly so any mistakes have to be rectified ASAP; I got into a bit of a mess with it and felt the application didn’t give a smooth line; instead it looked a bit clumpy and flakey! Having now used the product for a little over a week I still haven’t fallen in love with it, I find it hard work and would much rather go back to the traditional application of a brush and pot or my holy grail felt tip liner. I’m gutted because I spent £18.50 on the product and I built up high expectation and expected that I would give it the ‘wow factor.’ I may be the only blogger who feels this way, I’m not sure?
On further applications I found that when I clicked the pen the product took a few clicks again to come to the nib, only problem is one click didn’t bring out any product, two clicks brought a little product to the surface so I clicked a few more times and it then brought too much out and ended up just turning into a blob and falling on my dresser. I hate product wastage especially when I’ve paid a lot for a product.
Sometimes new products do take a little getting used to and maybe I just need to give it more time and you never know I may end up falling head over heels for it. At the moment I think I’m sitting on the fence a bit, I don’t love the product but I don’t loathe it either. I’ve been completely honest and open about my experience with the Benefit They’re Real Push Up Liner but please don’t be put off by the product on my account, I would say give it a go, you will only know through your own experience whether it’s the product for you.
Have you purchased the Benefit They’re Real Push Up Liner?
